There was recent controversy about whether some of the popular bubble tea chains in Malaysia were really certified halal or not as a few of them had not received their certification yet. One of these chains includes Xing Fu Tang, the hugely popular bubble tea with the “stir-fried boba” that has everyone queuing in long lines to get a taste of the drink.

Xing Fu Tang has replied before that all their ingredients are pork and lard-free, and they also have halal certification from Taiwan. While the Muslim community was concerned that this certificate might not be recognised in Malaysia, it looks like they may soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

That’s because they have recently announced that they have been given the halal certificate by Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MU) on their Facebook. “We are proud to announce to all our customers that Xing Fu Tang has been certified halal by Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MU). This Halal certification guarantees and assures that all our products, preparation method and source of ingredients are in compliance with the Islamic doctrine,” the statement read.

They also informed that their Muslim customers should rest assured as this halal certification is a recognised body by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim). Xing Fu Tang confirms that they are in the final steps of making sure that this halal certification will be converted to a Malaysian one and asks their customers to stay tuned.

These are the details of their halal certificate:
Certificate reference number: No. 03130016420617
Certificate validity: 25th June 2019 – 24th June 2021

Netizens are debating over this issue as they have not gotten the final certification from Jakim yet, but it looks like Xing Fu Tang wants to reassure their customers that they are doing what they can to cater to their Muslim fans as well.

So for our Muslim friends who can’t wait for the halal certification from Jakim to confirm that Xing Fu Tang is halal to consume, then rest assured that they are doing everything to can! Meanwhile, if you guys come across Xing Fu Tang in Indonesia and want to drink it, then you will be glad to know it is halal!
